More Abreu

Jose, agreeing with Todd Frazier‘s comments that the White Sox could be a special team:

“I have the same feeling. From the first day that I came here and I met (new bench coach Rick) Renteria and Frazier, that’s the feeling…the first practice, everybody was happy and was laughing and making jokes. That’s the kind of atmosphere that we need here. We need to feel the chemistry and be like a family. That’s something we need to build from here.”

Quotes of the Day

Adam Eaton on yesterday’s first full-squad workout:

“A refreshing start to the season because I think we’re in the process of changing the culture here.”

–Sox World Champion Aaron Rowand, now working on the Sox instructional staff, on newcomers Frazier, Rollins, Brett Lawrie and Alex Avila:

“Those are not just good player moves coming in but good people moves.”

Heard Around Camp

“Renteria can dive back into first base in two languages.”

Great Scott, a Gusher!

A note sent yesterday from Sox Senior Vice President, Communications Scott Reifert:

“So in addition to today being report date/physicals/first workout for the entire team, it also is an opportunity for middle aged members of the White Sox front office to also have their annual physicals (when only bad things can happen).

“At 6:30 am, as I went through the line of medical technicians, proudly carrying my urine specimen, I stopped to get blood drawn.

“‘I’ve been told I have good veins,’ I reported to the kind woman set to draw my blood.

“She fills one vial, then another, then another as I watched.

“Like 25 times before, she then patched me up and I stood up to leave paperwork in hand.

“All of a sudden, blood is flowing – pretty seriously – down my arm to my bent elbow.

“We have a gusher!!!” one trained medical staffer yells, sending me back to get cleaned up and re-patched. Nice way to start the day.”

Editor’s Note: Don’t worry, Scott is doing fine.
